About the film:

The Lithuanian director Mantas Kvedaravičius had already shot his film „Mariupolis“ in the port city of Mariupol on the Azov Sea in 2015 in order to capture the consequences of the 2014 Russia’s attack on the local population. After the next Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Mantas went back to Mariupol for filming. Kvedaravičius wanted to meet people he filmed back in 2015. The film focuses on civilians who suffer directly from the events of the war. For example, they seek refuge in a former place of worship in the north-east of the city – this is where a large part of the film takes place. In Mariupol, Mantas was captured, mistreated and murdered by Russian soldiers while filming. His partner Hanna Bilobrova and the editor friend Dounia Sichov completed the film “Mariupolis 2”.
